Overview
Extemporaneous Writing – Health Policy asks you to write an essay on a health-policy topic given to you on the spot, with limited prep time.
- It tests how quickly you can organize an argument and write clearly under pressure.
Format
- You receive a topic and a short preparation period, then write your essay within a set time.
- Usually handwritten on-site with no outside resources.
Key rules
- Write only on the assigned topic.
- No outside notes or references during the event.
- Stay within the time and length limits.
- Confirm materials allowed (e.g., blank paper) in the guidelines.
Tips
- Spend the first minute outlining: thesis + 2–3 supporting points.
- State your position clearly in the first paragraph.
- Support each point with reasoning or an example.
- Leave a moment to proofread for grammar and clarity.
- Practice writing timed essays on sample health-policy prompts.
